Quarks are the fundamentals particles of matter. They are unique in that they do not have integral charges, but rather those that are most easily expressed in thirds. Quarks are generally associated in pairs: up and down quarks, charm and strange quarks, top and bottom quarks.
Up and Down quarks are those found in protons and neutrons within the nucleus of an atom.
Quarks are NEVER found on their own. Rather, in hadrons, of which there are two kinds: byrons and mesons.
