The nuclei of atoms are generally composed of protons and neutrons. The nucleus is located at the center of every atom and most of the mass of the atom is located here.
Protons and Neutrons are made up of quarks, which come in six different flavors, up, down, strange, charm, top, and bottom. The parts of the nucleus are only made up of up and down quarks, however.
Protons are made up of two up quarks and one down quark. Neutrons are made up of two down quarks and one up quark.
